About the Blog

I am actually starting this blog just a few days after my  18th birthday, and just a few weeks before beginning university. I have been planning to start a blog like this since the month before my 17th birthday and have finally settled on how I want to roll with it. The reason for me starting a blog is very simple; I am a huge anime and manga fan, but in the otaku community I have always felt intermediate.

I want to change that. I really love a lot of bloggers and anime community websites, and I know discussion is a huge part of anime fandom, but I have seen my opinions differ more and more with those communities and individuals I love following. There was a clear difference between them and me, they were willing to put their opinions out there for criticism, and I wasn’t. With this blog I want to be able to express my opinions on anime, manga, and otaku culture in a way that can still be respected by readers even if their views on subjects differ from my own. This is essentially what almost any vocal individual wants, but it has become really important for me to make these strides. I have noticed that being a younger fan has had little bearing on my tastes in anime, what seems to differ between me and older audiences most is not tastes, but values. I am enthralled by this strange connection, and I hope I can explore this aspect to my fandom along with my audience.

About Me

I am going to keep most personal information personal for the time being. I really want to be able to share more personal things about myself with readers, but I will wait till I have found a comfortable audience until I do so. Until then this is all the personal info you get:

Name: ???
Handle: Intermediate Otaku
Age: 18
Ethnicity: ???
Location: United States
Occupation: University Student
Major: ???

As for non-personal info, I can go all out. Here I will take a short while to lay out some of my otaku-ness.

My Top 3 Manga:

  1. Claymore
  2. One Piece
  3. King of Thorn

My Top 3 Anime:

  1. Neon Genesis Evangelion
  2. Eureka Seven
  3. Gurren Lagann

The first anime I watched knowing it was anime:

  • Ranma 1/2

I used to be a hardcore dvd collector, but with more and more streaming I have been buying less. I still buy series that I want to own. With manga still slowing turning to digital, I still buy most series in print, but I do fallow Viz’s Shonen Jump Alpha digital magazine…..and it is awesome. WARNING. I am a complete Shonen Jump nerd, and I even am subscribed to the Japanese print anthology. I would love to talk about this in the future in some posts. As you can see, I fallow anime and manga in the most legitimate ways I can, and that makes up a huge part of my personality. In school I always tried to show other fans ways of following manga legally. It led to a lot of friendships, and it also led to me lending out a lot of dvd’s and books……..

The most import thing you need to know about me:

  • No matter how much I like or dislike a show, I will never say, “You should just pirate this.”

I also really like playing video games despite that fact that I am usually really bad at them. For the most part I just play rpg’s and fighting games. When it comes to me choosing games, usually the most important thing is story. It is really hard for me to experience the emotion others call “fun” just from playing a game without a story…..Well for money at least….I totally play flash games on the computer sometimes….But that’s because they are free….

Games I am currently playing:

  • Fate/ Extra (PSP)
  • Valkyrie Profile (PSP)
  • Persona 3 FES (PS2)

The last thing that is probably really important to note, is that I am a complete figure nerd. I have been collecting figures for 4 years, but in the last few months my purchasing has gone way down. I still plan on continuing, I am just a lot more selective now. I really love bloggers who can keep a nice ratio of merchandise to media content. I really hope I can do this in the future.
